For stone yards and suppliers

Measure irregular stone from photos. Help customers plan with the pieces you sell.

Turn separated stones into a numbered digital collection. See the face area of each piece and the collection’s combined square footage, then try layouts using the actual stones on hand.

From yard photo to customer conversation

Make individual pieces easier to see and use.

Photograph the inventory you want to work with. Hardscape Genius identifies visible stones, keeps their outlines and labels together, and gives you pieces to arrange on a two-dimensional plan.

01 / PHOTOGRAPH

Start with clear stone faces

Spread pieces apart, show the full outline, and place the printed 10 cm marker flat at the height of the faces being measured. Shoot from directly overhead.

02 / RECORD

See pieces and total coverage

Review the detected outlines and numbered stones. The collection records each visible piece’s face area and its combined square footage for planning.

03 / LAYOUT

Try a layout with actual stock

Arrange the photographed pieces on a digital patio or path. Use the numbered plan to discuss options with a customer before moving stone.

From numbered plan to finished patio

Cheryl used Hardscape Genius to plan her own flagstone patio restoration. Her numbered digital layout and finished patio are shown together below. She is a DIY homeowner and did not use the cutting tools shown in the separate stonemason example above.

A practical fit

For stone you can lay out and photograph.

Useful for irregular flagstone, mixed-format pieces and flat top faces that need individual attention. A thick step can be photographed for its top-face area when the marker sits at that same height and the entire edge is visible.

This is a planning measurement of the visible face. Check outlines and site dimensions before quoting material or committing to an installation.

Get a usable photo

  • Separate the pieces. Stacked, touching or hidden edges cannot be traced reliably.
  • Keep the marker in plane. Print the marker at 100% and put it level with the stone faces you want measured.
  • Shoot overhead in even light. Keep the camera parallel to the faces and all four marker corners visible.
